Gordon E. Boltz

Gordon E. Boltz, Sr., 91, formerly of Lebanon County, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at West Reading Rehabilitation and Nursing.

Born in Union Township, he was one of eight children of the late Harvey and Violet (Long) Boltz. Gordon left school in the 9th grade and worked as a tree trimmer until he came of age to join the United States Marine Corps. He served as a tank commander during the Korean War and was highly decorated over the course of his military career.

After his military service, Gordon married and started a family. He started out as a typesetter at the Lebanon Daily News, and continued working at the Reading Eagle until his retirement some 40 years later. In the span of his career, when typesetting was being phased out, he changed course, learned new skills, and began working in the Reading Eagle library. He was a hard worker who devoted himself to providing for his five children.

Gordon is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Clayter (Robert) of Sinking Spring and Judith Ann Kern of West Lawn; son, Scott Boltz of Hamburg; five grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by son, Gordon E. Boltz, Jr.; daughter, Kelly White; and siblings: Ethel, Kenneth, Delmar, Wallace, Betty, James, and Patricia.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 10:30 am in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc. 739 Penn Avenue West Reading, PA 19611. The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and again on Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial with military honors will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
