Glenn S. Yoder

Glenn S. Yoder, 88, died peacefully Saturday, June 11 at 2:00 P.M. at the Lutheran Home at Topton, PA. with his loving wife by his side. Glenn is formerly of Laureldale, Wyomissing and Hamburg. Glenn and Joan celebrated 61 years of marriage in April.

Glenn was born March 30, 1934 in Reading, a son of the late Frederick S.and Edna M. (Wagner) Yoder of Hamburg where he lived until meeting his wife. He graduated from Hamburg High School, class of 1952.

Glenn is survived by his loving wife, Joan (Ubil), daughter Lyndel Balthaser (Yoder), wife of Nelson Balthaser of Blandon PA. and two grandsons, Ryan of Fairfax, Virginia and Kyle of Suwanee, Georgia. He was very close to his family and very proud of them.

Glenn is predeceased by his parents, brother Russell, and sisters Dorothy Horning and Marilyn Epler.

All of his life, Glenn was a very hard, dedicated worker who followed his father into the Reading Railroad as his first job. Later, he worked at Camp and McInnis Hosiery in Reading where he met his wife. He worked at the former Grace Mines in Morgantown before he and Joan became self-employed owners of Yoder's Cleaning Service, Yoder's Home Furnishings and also a Montgomery Ward catalog store in Hamburg.

Glenn was a great boss, mentor and friend to his employees. After selling the business, Glenn became a maintenance supervisor for the former NPI before finally retiring.

Glenn and his wife enjoyed traveling, especially cruises to Bermuda, trips to Italy, Spain, Mexico, Englewood, Florida, Atlantic City and Brigantine, New Jersey. Glenn also loved going to casinos and spending time with the family. He was so proud of his daughter and grandsons.

He was a serious history buff, a voracious reader of anything to do with wars, especially the Civil War. He also enjoyed John Wayne movies.

He was a wonderful man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him, met him or worked for him. He could be found talking to strangers wherever he went.

Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in St. Michael's Cemetery, Hamburg, PA. As Glenn was an animal lover, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to the Humane Society or One by One cat shelter, if desired. Condolences may be expressed on this website.

Kuhn Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc, 5153 Kutztown Road, Temple, PA 19560 is in charge of arrangements.
