Gizella Teresa (Korodi), Hajdu 92, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2024, surrounded by her loving family and staff of caregivers. Born in Budapest, Hungary on August 18, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Alexander Korodi and Gizella (Peres).
She came to the United States as a refugee through Operation Mercy established by the U.S Army in December 1956 to Camp Kilmer in Edison, NJ, and was sponsored by Katie Shiftchock of Northhampton, PA.
Gizella had a desire to be a fashion designer in New York - which had to be put on hold when she found out she was with child. She came to Reading in 1960 to work at the Berkshire Knitting Mills, and then to H. Oritsky in 1975, finally retiring in 1996.
Her interests included sewing, fashion, watching movies, going to yard sales, the beach and the casino with her friends. She had an infectious laugh that could have you laughing until you cried.
Those left to treasure Gizella's memory are her loving son, Alex J. Sandor, husband of Eileen; former daughter in law Karen M. Sandor; her grandchildren: Guy Mohr, Jr., husband of Lynette, and Jamie Kilyk, wife of Justin; her great grandchildren: Dante Mohr, husband of Skyler, Olivia Mohr, and Miranda Kilyk; and her great-great granddaughter, Luna Mohr.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Gizella at the home of Alex and Eileen on Friday July 5th at 2 PM. Friends and family are welcome to come and celebrate her life and share stories/memories.
Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc. is honored to serve Gizella's family. Condolences may be expressed at kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
