Giordana (Marasci) Gentile, 80, of Sinking Spring, passed away on February 17, 2010 at the Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient for one day. She died surrounded by her loving husband, children & grandchildren.
Giordana was the wife of Domenico Gentile, whom she married on April 26, 1953.
Born on August 27, 1929 in Andali, Catanzaro, Italy, Giordana was the oldest of four children born to Antonio Marasci & Maria Grande.
In 1956, Giordana arrived in the U.S., a country she embraced from the start, with the intention of working hard to help provide for her family. She did just that, having worked at H. Oritsky sewing men's suits for 36 years. Hers was the classic immigrant story.
Mom always displayed a great deal of compassion toward others especially to those enduring hardships. She loved the garden and canning their own vegetables. She also loved to crochet, knit & sew and did alterations for everyone. She treasured the time spent with her family especially the grandchildren & great-grandchildren. She lived her life simply and taught us to keep our priorities in order. For herself, she never asked for anything.
Giordana is also survived by her children: Maria, wife of Falco F. DiBiase, South Heidelberg Township; Antonio, husband of Fran (Nigrelli) Gentile, Bern Township and Savio, husband of Terry Dex, Basking Ridge, NJ. There are also grandchildren: Annamaria DiBiase Dolinsky, wife of Matthew Dolinsky; Gina DiBiase Knorr, wife of Todd Knorr; Melissa DiBiase, Adrianna Gentile & Tony Gentile; great-grandchildren: Matthew, John Paul, Joseph & a soon-to-arrive baby boy. Other survivors include one sister, Teresa, Torino, Italy, a brother Domenico, Bari, Italy and a brother, Felice, Andali, Italy.
