Gilbert "Gil" F. Darlak, 89, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026 at Reading Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband Elaine (Resanovich) Lascomb Darlak, with whom he shared 25 years of marriage.
Born in Reading, Gil was the son of the late Francis and Julia (Stankiewicz) Darlak. He graduated Reading High School in 1954 before going on to earn his Bachelor's from Alvernia University and his Masters from Temple University. He worked as a supervisor at Berks Career & Technology Center until his retirement in 2022.
Gil was leading scorer on the Reading Varsity Basketball Team and Captain of the Baseball Team. He and the Great Post American Legion Team won the State Championship in 1952. He was a former Vice President of the Berks County Umpire Association, former President of the Berks County Football Association, and officiated football games for 33 years at several state and district playoffs. He was a Mason and also active in the Polish American Heritage Association.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Elaine, his children: Darryl Darlak (Karen, Karen Lee Eichhorn (Jeff), Eric Lascomb (Vicki) , and Lori Gobright (Chris); grandchildren: Daniel, Julia, and Andrew Darlak, Jessica and Conner Gobright, and Michael Lascomb; and great grandchildren, Ella and Xavier Clements.
Gil was predeceased by his first wife, Helen (McKinney) Darlak in 1996, and his granddaughter, Carolyn Lascomb.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 12 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of St. George at Gethsemane Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, February 11, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, 739 Penn Ave, West Reading, PA, 19611.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital or the Diocese of Allentown.
