Gertrude L. (Barnett) Young, 95, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert T. Young, until his passing on July 2, 2003.
Born in Spring Township, she was the daughter of the late Clarence H. and Eva M. (Baer) Barnett. Gertrude graduated from Wilson High School 1946 and worked at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center from April 11, 1967 to December 28, 1990.
Gertrude was a member of Lincoln Park Community United Methodist Church. At 90, Gertrude wrote and published a book titled, "It's a Miracle", defining the 43 days of her spouse, Robert, after his heart attack and his miraculous survival after 48 hours with no brain activity. She enjoyed going to Flea Markets, playing pinochle, and spending time with her 2 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Gertrude will be remembered for her laughter and sense of humor.
Those left to treasure Gertrude's memory are her daughters, Susan Nicholas, wife of Aris, and Bobbi Moroney, wife of Timothy; grandchildren, Christopher Nicholas, husband of Carrie, and Stephen Nicholas, husband of Heidi; great-grandchildren: Weston, Cooper, Story, Parker and Crosby; and her sister, Edna D. Chelson. She is predeceased by her brothers: Earl Barnett, Rev. Clarence H. Barnett, Jr, Edwin G. Barnett, Donald H. Barnett and sister M. Emily Levan.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading with entombment at Forest Hills Memorial Park. The viewing will be held from 10:30 a.m. to the time of service.
