Helene Gertrud (Schreiter) Bush 92, of Reading, died January 20, 2013 at Manorcare Health Services-Sinking Spring.
Born October 1, 1920 in Kunnersdorf, Saxony, Germany, she was a daughter of Otto Ewald and Meta Adelma (Schreiter) Schreiter, and the widow of Henry Sharman Bush who died August 7, 1991. They were married 46 years.
Trudy was a 1938 graduate of Wilson High School. She was employed by Berkshire Knitting Mills, the Reading Hospital, and the Prothonotary's Office of Berks County. She was a past president of the Glenside Elementary School Mothers Club, and served on the reunion committee of the 1938 Class of Wilson High School. She was of the Lutheran faith.
Trudy was known for being an avid reader, a great cook and a student of history. She loved talking about recipes and sharing her best ones with friends. She enjoyed having friends around her table for a good meal and conversation. She was a kind and loyal friend and a person of integrity. Trudy was very thankful to be an American citizen, and quoted her father that this is 'the greatest country in the world.' She had an unwavering trust and belief in Jesus Christ that saw her through the many ups and downs in life.
She is survived by two daughters, Trudy A. and Pamela J., both of Reading; nephews Frederick G. Jopp, Riverview Park; and Rudolf H. (Judi) Jopp, Whitfield; and Richard (Nancy) Labe, Shillington; Charlene Jopp, Wyomissing; Eileen Schreiter, Bedford; and also 4 great-nieces and 2 great-nephews. She is survived by close friend Betty J. Schafer and those who knew her as Mom Bush and Grandma Bush. She was predeceased by siblings B. Kurt Schreiter, M. Elsa Schreiter Jopp, niece Shirley M. Schreiter Labe and nephew Harold H. Schreiter.
A memorial service will be held Sunday January 27, 2013 at 2 pm at First Presbyterian Church, 37 South Fifth Street Reading, PA. The Rev. Tim Sanger will be officiating.
