Germaine G. (Lord) Maiorana, 89, of Wyomissing, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2017. Born on March 5, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Sallie (Rollman) Lord.
She was the wife of the late S. LeRoy Maiorana, M.D., who passed away on September 14, 2015. She was also predeceased by Grace C. Rollman.
Germaine graduated from Shillington High School in 1946. She graduated from Kutztown State Teachers College (now Kutztown University) with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Art Education in 1950. She began her art teaching career at Exeter Township Schools as Art Supervisor for grades K - 12. She went on to teach at Northwest Junior High School, where some may remember her as Miss Lord and where one of her most famous students was James Steranko, an American Graphic Artist. Thereafter, she taught in Dover, Delaware, while her husband was in the Air Force and Springfield, Montgomery County, while her husband was in his medical residency. She was the office manager for her husband's medical practice.
Proud of her heritage, Germaine was a descendant of Joseph Hiester, who helped ratify the U.S. Constitution and was the fifth governor of Pennsylvania. Throughout her life she found joy in singing and art. She could find beauty in the people and places she encountered. She was a classically trained opera singer. Among the places she sang were the Reading Civic Opera and the Holy Rosary Church Choir. She was commissioned to do artwork for the community, including the Berks County Medical Society Auxiliary, Holy Rosary Church and the Italian-American Cultural Center. She was also an avid reader and gourmet cook.
Germaine was an extraordinary woman of grace, beauty, faith, intelligence, strength, creativity, wit, great love and abundant kindness and empathy. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was her primary focus. She and her husband celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 25, 2015. Surviving are three children: Francesca A., wife of Lawrence P. Bansbach, Ardmore, Montgomery County; Lisa M., Wyomissing; and Nicholas G., husband of Suzanne, Macon, Georgia. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Julia Marian, Maria Francesca and Nicholas Lee Maiorana; and Philip Won Hyo Kim Bansbach.
