Gerda E. Mengel

Gerda E. (Fritzsche) Mengel, 87, died August 10, 2008 in Spruce Manor, West Reading.

Born May 18, 1921 in Burkhartsdorf, Germany, she was a daughter of the late Willie and Ellie (Hoffman) Fritzsche.

She was a graduate of Kutztown University.

Gerda was a teacher of Visually Handicapped children for the Berks County Intermediate Unit for 25 years.

She is survived by a son, William A. Mengel, husband of Margo, West Lawn; and two daughters, Carole A., wife of Jay Schmehl, Wernersville; and Diana E., wife of Terry DeBold, Wyomissing.

There is also a sister, Phyllis Zentgraf, Wyomissing. Also surviving are six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandchild.

Graveside services will be private. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
