Geraldine R. Renken

Geraldine Whiteley Renken, 83, of The Highlands, died May 18, 2007 at 7:17 pm in the Highlands at Wyomissing Skilled Care Unit.

She was married May 24, 1986 to Dr. Wilbur G. Renken. Her first husband, William S. Whiteley died May 22, 1982.

Born June 4, 1923 in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Stephen H. and Edith A. (Litch) Ely.

She was a member of West Lawn United Methodist Church.

Geraldine was a 1940 graduate of Reading High School and graduated with a B.S. in Health, Physical and Recreation Education in 1943 from East Stroudsburg University, where she had served on the Alumni Board.

She was employed as a health and physical education teacher with Perry Township High School, Y.W.C.A, Albright College and the Reading School District for a number of years until her retirement.

Geraldine is also survived by two sons, Craig W. husband of Mary A. Whiteley and Cary S. husband of Lisa W. Whiteley all of South Heidelberg Township.

Other survivors include a step-son, Dennis E. husband of Julia Renken of Fairfax, VA and three step-daughters; Judith (Renken) wife of Jeffrey Poley of Chester Springs; Amy (Renken) wife of George Lutz of Wyomissing and Barbara (Renken) wife of Jeffrey Faber of Seattle, Washington.

There is also a sister, Jacquelyn (Ely) widow of Daniel Bollman of Wyomissing, three grandchildren; Christopher, Matthew and Geoffrey and eight step-grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 pm in West Lawn United Methodist Church, Penn & Woodside Avenues, West Lawn, PA 19609, with the Rev. Jeffrey A. Raffauf officiating. Burial will be private in Forest Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the church at the above address or American Cancer Society, 498 Bellevue Ave., Reading, PA 19605.
