Geraldine M. Didyoung

Geraldine "Gerry" M. Didyoung, 83, formerly of Pennside, died May 11, 2017, in ManorCare, Laureldale.

Her husband, Gerard J. Didyoung, died July 26, 2003. They were married on January 29, 1955 in St. Paul's Church.

Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Whalen J. and Emma J. (Karabinos) Smith.

She was a graduate of Central Catholic High School in 1951 and St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in 1954.

Gerry was a private duty nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital, Community General Hospital and Reading Hospital for 50 years. She served as the school nurse at both St. Catharine's Parochial School and Mt. Penn Elementary School. Gerry also worked in industry as an R.N. for Nurses in Industry, Reading.

She was a lifelong member of St. Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, Mt. Penn.

Gerry is survived by three children, James G., husband of Kim Didyoung, Pennside; Mary Jo Didyoung, Pennside; and Frederick J. Didyoung. One brother, Whalen J. Smith, Reading, 10 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren also survive her.

She was predeceased by one brother, Allen J. Smith.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 15, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, 4975 Boyertown Pike, Reading, PA 19606, with burial to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Catharine's School, 2427 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA 19606. Edward J.
