Gerald Sulman of Pembroke Pines, Florida died at home on November 27. He was 80. Born in Reading on Dec. 23, 1925, he was the son of the late Bessie (Sykes) and Calvin Sulman. He lived for many years in Reading and Allentown and the last 16 years in Florida.
Mr. Sulman served in the US Navy during WWII. He was a radio operator aboard the LSM 131 and was stationed in the Philippine Islands. After 50 years, he searched for and located his surviving shipmates and organized several reunions.
He was a graduate of Miami of Ohio Radio School and the Reading Business School. He worked as the credit manager at Kay Jewelers in Reading and Thornton Jewelers in Allentown. He was an insurance agent for both Metropolitan and Acacia Life Insurance Companies in the Allentown area. Prior to retiring he was bartender at the Men's Grill at Saucon Valley Country Club.
He was the beloved husband of Marie (Hart) Sulman for 62 years; loving father of Susan (Sulman) Allison and her husband James R. Allison of Dover, NJ and Janet Sulman of Allentown; loving brother of Marjorie Moyer of Reading; devoted grandfather of Greg and Scott Allison and Levi and Rem Lederer.
Mr. Sulman was recently elected president of The James Jr. Fund, a volunteer group dedicated to raising funds for sick children of Broward County, FL. He was Director of his Century Village condo building in Pembroke Pines.
Visiting hours are on Friday, December 1st from 10 -11 AM followed immediately by a service at Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, 3300 Kutztown Rd., Laureldale, Pa. Interment will follow at Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
