Gerald R. Potts

Gerald R. 'Jerry' Potts, 85, of Shillington, died January 18, 2016, at the Reading Hospital.

He was the husband of Shirley M. (Himmelreich) Potts, whom he was married to for 62 years.

Born in West Reading, he was the son of the late Chester A. and Willa (Lutz) Potts.

Jerry was a graduate of Shillington High School in 1948 and Albright College in 1952 where he was a four letter athlete playing football, basketball, track and baseball.

He worked as a purchasing agent for Cartech, General Battery, and Trim Master among other manufacturing companies from 1954 until his retirement in 1980.

Jerry was a member of New Life Church,( formerly St. Lukes Evangelical Congregration), Shillington.

He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War.

Jerry was a board member and member of various organizations in the community such as: Governor Mifflin School Board 24 years, BCTC, Rep to Career and Tech Center, Leesport, GM Booster Club and GM Hall of Fame, PIAA Track official, Shillington Boro Council, Shillington Zoning and Planning Commission. He also coached Shillington Little League Baseball.

In addition to his wife, Jerry was survived by three children: Lori E., wife of William Gerber; Richard D. Potts and Andrew S. Potts, all of Shillington. Four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive him.

He was predeceased by his two sisters: Jean Reifsnyder and Mary Jane Cook.

Services will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and Monday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.. in the funeral home.
