George Washington Hampele, 85, formerly of Spring Township, died of natural causes April 24th at 11:45pm in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, where he had been since April 12th.
He was taken there from ManorCare Health Services, Spring Township, where he had been since January 24th.
Hampele was the husband of Marie Helen (Amrhein) Hampele, a resident at ManorCare Health Services, West Reading.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Harry J. and Alma V. (Hoffman) Hampele.
He was a Navy Veteran of WWII.
Hampele was a part-owner of Hampele-Kreitz Crane Rigging for 20 years, before retiring in 1973.
He was a life member of the Sinking Spring VFW and Lincoln Park Fire Company.
Hampele was a 50 year member of the Shriners and a 32nd degree Mason with the Masonic Lodge #549 of West Reading.
He was a charter member of the International Operating Engineers Local #542 of Philadelphia where he was a member of over 60 years.
Hampele is also survived by three daughters, Bobbie L. (Turczyn) Tobin of Pittsburgh, Rachel A. Hampele of Reading and RuAnn A. (Hampele) Roach of Houston, Texas.
Other survivors include two step-daughters, Michelle M. (Turczyn) Brumbach of Spring Township and Diane E. (Turczyn) Strickler of Lower Heidelberg Township.
There are also 4 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren and 1 step great grandchild.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Georgine Hampele, who died in 1962.
Services will be Friday at 1:00 pm in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Viewing Thursday evening 7:00 - 8:30pm in the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Township.
