George W. Galt

George W. Galt, 88, of Lower Alsace Township, passed away July 13, 2013 in St. Joseph's Hospital & Medical Center.

He was the beloved husband of Dorothea L. (Strausser) Galt, whom he married August 20, 1949.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late August and Mary (Micheals) Galt.

He graduated from Reading High School in 1947 and McCann's Business School in 1948.

George proudly served in the 4th Marine Division in World War II. He fought in the Pacific, including the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

He was a plant maintenance supervisor for Reading Gray Iron Castings for 40 years.

George enjoyed farming, working on cars, trips to Disney and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Jerry G. Galt, husband of Deborah, Lower Alsace Township, and Cynthia Sonon, Allentown.

Also surviving is his sister, Millie Galt, Reading.

Additional survivors include six grandchildren: Eric Galt, husband of Pam, Tiffany Galt, Sabrina Galt, Melanie Sonon, fiancée of Joseph Hasting, Melissa Sonon and Jason Sonon, husband of Heather and seven great grandchildren: Joshua, Sean, Ryan, Levi, Owen, Jillian, and Olivia.

George was predeceased by his sister, Rose Galt.

Services will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services in the funeral home. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery.
