George J. Toontas, 96, of Shillington, passed away January 3, 2017, at Berks Heim.
Born in Flint, MI, he was a son of the late James and Bharo (Sterebas) Toontas.
George worked for Jones Motor Company and Textile Chemical Company as a mechanic. He drove trucks all over the United States during his early days.
He was a member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Reading.
George was also a retired union member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
He enjoyed fixing cars; loved traveling and playing blackjack. His friendly personality, caring nature and love of his family will be greatly missed.
George is survived by five nieces and nephews: Debby, wife of Thomas Urban, West Reading; Diane Toontas, wife of Steven Stinsky, Reading; Steve, husband of Nancy Marmarou, Temple; John Pietrobone, West Reading and Rev. George, husband of Gloria Bratiotis, Sparks, NV. One sister-in-law, Virginia Toontas, Edmonds, OK and four great-nieces and nephews: Jennifer Fitterling; Andrew Urban; Maverick and Melina Stinsky; as well as many other great-nieces and nephews also survive him.
He was predeceased by seven siblings: James Toontas; Beatrice Bratiotis; Anna Dantos; Jeannette Pietrobone; Pauline Marmarou; Diane Vlamis and Thomas Toontas.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Burial will be in Charles Evans Cemetery.
