George I. Sillman

George Ira Sillman, Jr., 85, died of natural causes February 10th in his Penn Township residence.

He was the husband of Mildred L. (Kissling) Sillman.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late George I. Sr., and Mary (Klein) Sillman.

He was a 1938 graduate of Reading High School and a graduate of the Pennsylvania Institute of Criminology, Phila Pa (1947).

Sillman was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Hyde Park.

He was an Army Air Corp. Veteran of WWII and a retired Past Division Captain, Div. XI, US Coast Guard Auxiliary. Sillman was employed as a Special Investigator by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare from 1960 thru 1965 and then as a non-support officer by the Berks County Domestic Relations Office from 1965, retiring in 1982.

He was previously employed eight years as a police officer by the Bern Township Police Department where he was a charter member(1952 to 1960).

Sillman is also survived by three daughters, Patricia L. (Sillman) Pohl of Spring Township, Catherine E. (Sillman) Wolf of Spring Township and Georgine M. (Sillman) Cooke of Exeter Township.

Other survivors include seven grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Suzanne M. Sillman, who died January 31, 1965 and a sister, Evelyn A. (Sillman) Hunter.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00 am in Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Hyde Park. Viewing Tuesday evening 6:30 - 8:00 pm in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township. Contributions may be made to Berks Visiting Nurses / Hospice, 1170 Berkshire Blvd, Wyomissing, Pa 19610.
