George Edward Scargle, 81, Whitfield passed away April 10th at home. He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia (Toye) Scargle (April 12, 2009).
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late George Edward Scargle and Bertha James Scargle. He graduated from Northeast High School. In 1949 he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force National Guard Unit. He trained at Lewes, Delaware, and in Florida at McDill Air Force Base, Tampa. He was stationed at Pusan East Air Base in Korea for 1 1/2 years. He met Patricia during their employment at Beryllium Corporation and they married in 1957. George was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church. He was a devoted husband and father; and was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his five children; Kathleen, wife of Jonathan McCormick (Somerville, MA), Thomas, husband of Elizabeth (Kennett Square, PA); George; Patrick, husband of Maria (Wyomissing, PA) and Joseph, husband of Lori, (Wyomissing, PA). Eight grandchildren, also survive: Joseph Scargle, Jr., Laura Scargle, John McCormick, Caitlin Scargle, Matthew Scargle, Aidan Scargle, Hannah Scargle, Owen Scargle and one great-granddaughter Aubree.
A Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 14 at 11 a.m. in St. Ignatius Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Opportunity House, 430 N.
