George J. Kugler Jr., 87, of Wernersville, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2024, in the care of Phoebe Berks. He was the widower of Dora "Dolly" P. Kugler, who passed away on November 12, 2021. They shared over 65 beautiful years together.
Born in Reading to the late George J. Kugler Sr. and Edna (Martin), George graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1954 and from Albright College in 1958 with a degree in Economics. He was a member of Zeta Omega Epsilon.
He first worked with American Casualty Insurance and later at Western Electric and assisted the Reading Eagle's distribution department on weekends. He ultimately retired in 1996 as the sales manager for Wyomissing Paper Corporation; his largest account was with the Hershey Company for the brown paper used to wrap chocolate bars.
He was a member of St. Ignatius of Loyola Church, Whitfield.
In his own words, George was a man interested in investments, carpentry work, reading, and sports. A gifted high school athlete who played basketball and baseball. George received a Distinguished Achievement Award from the Reading Berks Basketball Association in 2017. He and the late John "Chick" Loeper coached the 9th grade baseball team for Central Catholic for several years. George treasured time spent with his beloved wife, particularly during family trips to Stone Harbor, the casino, and along the golf tournament circuit. His "whole fam-damn-ily" will remember him as a loving and supportive family man who had to be tough because he was "a girl dad."
Left to treasure George's memory are his daughters: Susan L. Mundy (Patrick A.) of Plymouth Meeting; Lisa A. Alderman (Thomas W.) of Downingtown; and Karen M. Quinn (M. Conor) of Towson, MD; grandchildren: Vincent P. Mundy (Caitlin); Megan S. Fultz (Skyler); Caitlin N. Mundy; Tyler D. Alderman (Allison); Ryan T. Alderman (Victoria); Dylan T. Alderman; Devon M. Quinn; and Owen M. Quinn; and great grandchildren: Brody Mundy; Brett Mundy; Maeve Mundy; Harlow Alderman; Shane Alderman, Heidi Alderman, Sloane Alderman, and Griffin Alderman. George is also survived by his sister, Mary Smith of Wernersville, and many nieces and nephews.
Contributions in George's memory may be offered to St. Ignatius of Loyola Church; please mail to the rectory at 2810 St. Albans Dr, Reading, PA 19608.
