George Albert Hunsicker

George Albert Hunsicker Jr., 76, formerly of Reading, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, in the care of Mifflin Court surrounded by his two daughters, Sara and Abby, and granddaughter, Olivia. George was born in Reading to the late George A. Hunsicker Sr. and Doris Sarah (Lutz) Hunsicker.

After graduating form Hamburg High School in 1965, George proudly chose to enlist in the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, he entered the Navy Reserve and the Army Reserve, and enrolled at the Reading Police Academy.

For over 40 years, Lieutenant Hunsicker served in the Reading Police Department and retired in 2014. He loved the city of Reading and took great pride in living in and patrolling his community. His entire life was dedicated to serving his country and his community.

He fiercely loved his family and the friends who became like family. He had a great group of friends who regularly met for war games. He was a gifted artist and a jokester. His welcoming personality made it easy for him to make friends where ever he went, including the other residents and nursing team at Mifflin Court.

Left to treasure his memory are his daughters, Sara Ellen Hunsicker of Dalton, GA, and Abigail "Abby" Showalter, wife of Jeffrey, of Wernersville, and his granddaughters, Olivia Catherine Schmitz of Dawsonville, GA, and Margaret Pollyanna Showalter of Wernersville. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Anna Elizabeth Hunsicker.

Services for George Hunsicker will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, 739 Penn Ave. West Reading, PA, 19611. Viewing will be held Friday, January 26, 2024, at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the start of services.
