George D. Helm

George David Helm, 81 of Muhlenberg Township, died April 25, 2008 at 2:25 a.m. in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

He was the husband of Margery L. (Reinhardt) Helm, whom he married July 8, 1951.

Born November 6, 1926 in Freeport, NY, he was the son of the late George Leo and Anna Louise (Homan) Helm.

George was a 1944 graduate of Mepham High School. He received a Bachelor's Degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Electrical Engineering. He also received a Master's degree from Northeastern University, Boston.

George was employed as an electrical engineer by Sylvania, MA; Bell Laboratories, NJ & Reading and Lucent Technologies, Muhlenberg Township.

He was a member of WELaurel Amateur Camera Club.

George was a graduate of the Navy ROTC.

In addition to his wife, George is survived by four children: Dr. Brenda D. (Helm) wife of Rev. Richard A. Leiby of Muhlenberg Twp.; George D., husband of Pamela L. (Kemp) of Fairport, NY; Dr. Jeffrey D., husband of Barbara (Brower) Helm of Bethlehem, PA and Pamela D. (Helm), wife of James Frankola of Saratoga, CA.

Also survivng is a brother Walter, husband of Janet (Marshall) Helm of Waianae, HI and a sister, Sr. Miriam Helm, S.C. of Edmonton, Alberta, CA.

There are ten grandchildren: Kristin Helm, Katherine Dempsher, Amanda Nelson, Kimberly Helm, Ethan Leiby, Megan Leiby, Kurtis Helm, Kaitlyn Helm, Abigail Frankola and Sarah Frankola.

George was predeceased by a sister Lillian (Helm) Kieran, who was the wife of Lloyd Kieran of Laguna Niguel, CA.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Rosedale U.C.C., 1301 E. Bellevue Avenue, Reading, PA 19605, with the Rev. Richard A. Leiby officiating. A viewing will be held Monday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale and Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the church. Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Rosedale U.C.C. at the above address and/or Greater Berks Food Bank, 1011 Tuckerton Ct., Reading, PA 19605.
