George F. Goerner, Jr., 68, died June 9, 2014 after a long battle with cancer in his Muhlenberg Township residence with Suzy by his side.
Born June 3, 1946 in Reading, he was a son of Elinor L. (Kline) Goerner of Reading and the late George F. Goerner, Sr.
He is survived by his significant other of 28 years, Suzy Good.
George was a 1964 graduate of Central Catholic High School.
He was employed as a self mechanic for many years.
A good man, George loved talking to neighborhood children and helping others.
He got involved in dirt track racing when he was 12 years old with his father. He owned a Super Sportsman which his brother Bob raced and formed Goerner Bros. racing. He then got involved with racing sprint cars until 1982; then Midgets with ARDC and most recently 600's with driver Billy Ney at Action Track.
Additional survivors include his eight siblings: Robert, Stephen, Thomas, Michael, Joseph, Margaret, Regina Ohlinger and MaryJo Ray and their spouses. There are also numerous nieces and nephews surviving.
Also surviving are Suzy's three sons, Scott, Buddy and Barry, along with their wives and six children: Tanner, Nicholas, Alexis, Aiven, Kylie and Savannah, who were all very close to him.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to Kuhn-Stitzel Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, PA 19605.
