George M. Ehst, 66, died of cancer July 24 at 8:35 a.m. in his Cumru Township residence.
He was the husband of Bonnie A. (Swartz) Ehst.
Born in West Lawn, he was a son of the late Melvin H. and Ruth E. (Sanders) Ehst.
Ehst had been last employed as an area furniture refinisher, retiring in 1992. He previously worked from 1976 to 1987 for the Muhlenberg Township Parks and Recreation Department and as a self-employed tree trimmer and carpenter for two years.
He also previously worked as a foreman for Penn Line, Scottsdale, Westmoreland County and as a route man for Yorgey's Dry Cleaning, Reading.
Ehst was a 1957 graduate of Mount Penn High School.
He was an Air Force veteran.
Ehst was an honorary member of the Daniel Boone Rod and Gun Club.
He is also survived by a son, Richard E., Shrewsbury, York County, and a foster daughter, Audra R. Smith, Womelsdorf.
Other survivors include a brother, Richard, Rockland Township.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Calvary Evangelical Church of Pennwyn, Cumru Township. Friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m at the Calvary Evangelical Church. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 498 Bellevue Ave. Reading, PA 19605, or to St. Jude's Children Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105-2794. Burial will be in Hill Church Cemetery, Pike Township. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
