George R. Ege

George Roland Ege, 79, of Spring Township, died August 30th at 5:45 am in the Community Campus of St. Joseph Medical Center.

He was the husband of Dolores (Sumoski) Ege, whom he married March 26, 1960.

Born January 27, 1927, he was the son of the late Henry G. and Ella N. (Baer) Ege.

He was a 1944 graduate of Reading High School a 1951 graduate of Temple University and a graduate of Johns Hopkins University.

George was employed 41 years by the Reading Eagle Company as a sports writer, assistant wire editor and copy reader before retiring in 1992.

He had also worked as a sports broadcaster for WEEU, Reading for a number of years, telecasting the Reading High Boys Basketball games.

George was a past president of the Friendship Fire Company, Reading a member of the Berks County Firemen's Association and a member of the St. John's Lodge #435 F&AM, Wyomissing.

He is also survived by three daughters, Cynthia L. (Ege) wife of Carl A. Bossler of Wyomissing; Christine D. (Ege) wife of Steven R. Cordell of Silverdale, Bucks County and Kathleen P. (Ege) wife of Michael D. Janssen of Cumru Township.

Other survivors include three grandsons, Cameron, Devon and Alex and four granddaughters, Natalie, Olivia, Emily and Rachel.

Memorial services will be Saturday at 11:00 am in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Visitation will be 10:00 am until time of service. Burial will be private in Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
