It is with tremendous grief that the family of George Alan Connolly, of Wyomissing, PA announces his passing on Tuesday August 5th, 2025. He was only 87 years old.
Born in Englewood, NJ, he was the son of the late William Michael and Frances (O'Connell) Connolly. George graduated from Baldwin Wallace College with a degree in Business Psychology and Rutgers University, where he earned his MBA in Finance. He enjoyed a long and successful career as an HR Specialist at Western Electric and Penn National Gaming, and later as a Labor Relations Arbitrator on behalf of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.
George was a devoted man of the community. He served on the board of the Reading Hospital for twenty years and was quite proud of his service on the Berks County Senior Citizens Council. Not only was George a member of the Reading Aero Club, but he also held a pilot's license. George had a love of music, especially jazz, and in his younger years was an accomplished trumpeter.
George is survived by his wife, Martha Simpson Horsfield Connolly with whom he shared 50 wonderful years of marriage; daughter, Elisabeth Connolly Shelton; grandchildren: Grace Elizabeth Connolly, Nathan Alan Shelton, and Sarah Elisabeth Shelton; brother-in-law, James Albanese; and niece, Dori Cerciello. George also leaves behind his devoted and loving Shih Tzu, Arnie. He was predeceased by his son, Christopher Alan Connolly and sister, Deborah Connolly Albanese.
George was a man of strong opinions, sharp wit, and an unshakeable sense of who he was; yet underneath that hard exterior was someone fiercely loyal to those he cared about. He had a dry sense of humor, loved to debate, and could always find a way to make you smile. If he gave you a nickname, you were "in". George was a man who lived his life on his own terms and never apologized for it. He was one in a million, and he will be missed beyond measure by all who were lucky enough to know him.
