George Leo Bennethum

George Bennethum, 85, of Sinking Spring, passed away in his residence on Tuesday, April 8th, 2025.

He was the loving husband of Alice (Oxenreider) Bennethum.

Born to his parents, the late William and Leona (Seisler) Bennethum, George was raised in Reading alongside his late siblings, William G. Bennethum and Rosemary Brown. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1958 and later attended McCann School of Business and Technology in Reading.

On September 12th, 1959, George married the love of his life, Alice, with whom he shared three children: George W. Bennethum, husband of Karen, of Wernersville; Philip M. Bennethum Sr., husband of Diane, of Shillington; and Thomas M. Bennethum, of Grill.

George was also blessed with three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. His grandchildren are Philip Jr., husband of Katie, Paul, husband of Kara, and Samantha, wife of Chandler; and his great-grandchildren are Philip III, husband of Helena, Luke, Brynn, Jack, Eric, George, Maggie, and Kennedy.

Throughout his life, George worked for HL Green's 5 & Dime, as a machinist at Textile Mills, as a deliveryman for Aramark Uniform. In his free time, George enjoyed fishing, hunting, vacationing in Canada, and spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed by everyone in his family and all those who knew him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Baptist de la Salle, 42 Kerrick Road, Shillington, PA 19607, on Monday, April 14th at 10:00 am. A viewing will be held in the church the morning of the mass at 9:00 am. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.
