George W. Bampton

George W. Bampton, 82, formerly of Reading, died May 5 at 8:15 a.m. in Beverly Healthcare, Exeter Township, where he had resided since April 8.

His wife, Ruth M. (Henry) Bampton, died May 2, 2005.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late George E. and Susan H. (Kuhlman) Bampton.

Bampton was employed for 10 years as an electrician/crane operator by the Reading Railroad until 1957. He was employed for 18 years as a maintenance man by Bortz Chocolate Co., Reading. He was the owner of Bampton's Varieties, Reading, from 1957 until his retirement in 1988.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving is a daughter, Joan L. (Bampton) Smith, Wyomissing.

Other survivors include a granddaughter.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.
