Genevieve M. Barra

Genevieve Marie (Karl) Barra, 90, of Wyomissing, died December 15, 2007.

She was married March 22, 1941 to the late Dr. Sylvio Joseph Barra, who died March 4, 1974.

Born April 26, 1917 in Holidaysburg, PA., she was a daughter of the late John A. and Kathryn (Hart) Karl.

She was a 1935 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1937 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.

Genevieve was employed a number of years as a laboratory technician with St. Joseph Medical Center, Reading.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, West Reading.

Genevieve was a former Board Member of the Friends of the Reading Museum and its Foundation Board and also a Docent at the Museum.

She is survived by four children, Sylvia L. Barra of Royal Oak, Michigan; James R. husband of Cathryn (Sweigart) Barra, of Dauphin, PA.; Kathryn R. Barra of Manasquan, NJ and Rosemary (Barra) wife of Joseph Caruso of Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Other survivors include five grandchildren, Joseph husband of Sara (McKinsey) Barra; Carmela Barra; Cathryn Rose Barra; Andria Caruso and Tony Caruso and two great grandchildren, Lillian Barra and James Barra.

She was predeceased by two siblings, Richard and Robert Karl.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 1:00 pm in Sacred Heart R.C. Church, West Reading, with a visitation held from 12:30 pm until time of Mass. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township. Contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Memorial Society, PO Box 6217, Reading, PA 19610. Edward J.
