Gene P. Shurr, 75, of Exeter Township, died April 22, 2012, in Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
He was the husband of Judith A. (Schlaybach) Shurr. They were married for 52 years.
Born in Sinking Spring, he was a son of the late H. Leroy and Dorothy (Moyer) Shurr.
He was a 1955 graduate of Wilson High School.
Gene was employed for 29 years as a dock hand for Berks Welding Supply- AIRCO. After his retirement, he worked at Cheshire Farm.
Gene was an avid golfer, NASCAR fan and hunter. He especially enjoyed turkey hunting and he was a member of the North American Turkey Federation.
Gene loved his family and especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Judi L., wife of Steven R. Perkins, Exeter Township; three siblings, Shirley A., wife of Al Royer, Longmont, CO, Lee C. Shurr, Kenhorst and Kay A. Shurr, Longmont, CO and two grandchildren, Matthew R. Perkins and Michael J. Perkins.
He was predeceased by three siblings, Harry D. Shurr, Richard Shurr and Violet Valentine.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 4 Park Plaza N Park Road, Suite 105A Wyomissing, PA 19610.
