Gayle E. (Stankiewicz) Royce

Gayle E. (Stankiewicz) Royce, 83, of Reading, passed away August 7, 2017, in the Mifflin Center.

Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Dewey Salomon and Ella (Edwards) Brown.

She was a graduate of Muhlenberg High School and Reading Area Community College Nursing School.

Gayle was a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Reading.

She was an outstanding nurse, caring for patients for over 40 years. Gayle was employed by former Governor, George Leader and family at Country Meadows and Leader Nursing Homes. She moved up quickly through the ranks from LPN to RN to the Director of Nursing and retired as Vice President at Country Meadows. In her later years she worked part-time along side her son for Boscov's Exton, North and East locations as the Bridal Coordinator .

Gayle was a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan and especially loved watching her grandson play basketball. She enjoyed reading a good book, playing bingo and spending time with her beloved family. Gayle also enjoyed attending St. Peter's CYO basketball and road trip for the games too. She will truly be missed by all.

She is survived by her five children, JoAnn Johnson, Reading; Shawn, husband of Kirsten Stankiewicz, Reading; Marsha Fuentes; Reading; Craig Johnson, Hamburg; David Johnson, MD. She is also survived her grandchildren Melissa Johnson, Becky Gibble, Seth Stankiewicz, Kaela Stankiewicz, Eric Stankiewicz, Danielle Fuentes and 8 additional grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Katie Gibble and 13 additional great-grandchildren.

Gayle was predeceased by her 2 brothers, Charles Brown and Joseph Brown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, August 14, 2017, at 9:30 am in St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 322 S 5th St, Reading, PA 19602 with burial to follow at Berks County Memorial Gardens, 201 Evansville Rd, Fleetwood, PA 19522. A viewing will be held Sunday, August 15, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA 19611.
