Gary Lawrence Saunders

Gary L. Saunders, 63, of Mohnton, passed away on October 30, 2024, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

A devoted father and grandfather, he was married to Darlene (Howe) for 43 years. Gary was born in Ithaca, NY, to the late Lester LeRoy and Esther Mae (Vargo) Saunders. He grew up in Enfield, NY and graduated from Ithaca High School.

Most recently, Gary served as the General Manager of Pilot Flying J in Frystown, PA. Prior to that, he worked at Rite Aid overseeing stores in six states for 23 years as a District Manager. He began his retail career at Grand Union, where he met his beloved wife, Dar.

While Gary was a tenacious and tireless leader in the workforce, he also had many passions in his free time. Gary cherished hunting, fishing, and watching the Buffalo Bills. He had a deep affection for his Labrador retrievers, Hunter and Turner. One of his greatest joys was cheering on his grandchildren at their various sporting events.

In addition to his wife, Dar, Gary's memory will be cherished by their three children: Christopher of Green Fields; Steven and his wife Jessica of Wyomissing; and Maureen and her husband Sean Banks of Ramona, CA. He is also remembered by his grandchildren: Austin, Jaden, Jaxon, Molly, Evan, and Colin; brothers-in-law, Fred (Pat) and Rod (Mark Pedersen, deceased) Howe; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and their families.

Other individuals who held a very special place in Gary's heart include: The family of Tom and Aot Somsamaivong, as well as Cassie Larcombe.

Gary was predeceased by his parents and by his brothers, Alex and Jim Saunders, and sister, Debbie Brazo.
