Frieda S. Griffith

Frieda S. (Schroeder) Griffith, 83, formerly of East Petersburg, Lancaster County, died June 8, 2008 at 11:20 pm in Rittenhouse Senior Living (formerly St. Joseph Living Center), Muhlenberg Township.

She was predeceased by her first husband; Francis Krafft, who died in 1945 and her second husband; Herlin E. Griffith who died March 31, 1994.

Born on July 8, 1924 in Lancaster, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Schroeder and Maria (Liebwein) Schroeder-Renner.

Frieda was a 1942 graduate of Central Catholic High School, Reading.

She was an owner, with her husband, of the Towne Tavern, East Petersburg from 1956 until 1973.

Frieda was later employed in customer service, with Core States Bank for 10 years, retiring September 26, 1986.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, West Reading.

Frieda is survived by five neices and nephews; Raymond F. Jr., husband of Barbara A. (Weidner) Geiger of Bern Township; Joseph Schroeder and John Schroeder, both formerly of Kenhorst; Anton F. husband of Mary K. (Terefinko) Steuer of Gaithersburg, Maryland and Maria R. (Steuer) Esterbrook-Phillips, wife of Harry E. Phillips of Wyomissing.

She is also survived by several great nieces, nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.

Frieda was predeceased by three siblings; Joseph Schroeder, Mary R. Geiger and Rose A. Steuer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 8th and Franklin Streets, West Reading, with Msgr. Joseph A. DeSantis celebrating.
