Frank L. "Francis" Woolley, 82, Spring Township, died Aug. 9 in Reading Hospital.

He was taken to the hospital from the Mifflin Center, Cumru Township, where he had resided since July 28.

He was the husband of Merri M. (Murdoch) Woolley.

Born in Highland Park, Ill., he was a son of the late Francis L. and Ethel M. (Myers) Woolley.

Woolley was employed from 1951 to 1955 as project engineer by the U.S. Naval Training Device Center, Sands Point, N.Y. From 1955 to 1971, he was employed as a design engineer in polarized processing by Technical Animations Inc., Port Washington, N.Y.

In 1965, he developed a process polarized animation for mass production.

Woolley came to Reading in 1971 as director of research and development for the polarized division of Smith, Kline & French Laboratories.

In 1978, he formed the Frank Woolley Co. for the manufacture of polarized animation for the display industry, retiring in 2002.

Woolley was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II.

He was a 1941 graduate of Port Washington (N.Y.) High School and a 1946 graduate of the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, N.Y.

Woolley was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Reading.

He is also survived by a daughter, Susan (Woolley) Malin, Longmont, Colo.

Other survivors include a brother, James A., Tucson, Ariz.

He was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey J. Woolley, in 2004.

Memorial services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Christ Episcopal Church. Contributions may be made to Christ Episcopal Church 5 East Court Street, Reading, PA 19601. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
