Frank Quinlan Sands

Frank Quinlan Sands Jr. , 81 of Muhlenberg Township passed away February 14, 2014 at 5:30 a.m. in his home. He was born on Tuesday, March 8, 1932 at 1436 Birch Street, Reading. The son of Frank Q. Sands and Verna Rose (Eisenhart), he was predeceased by his older brother, John Norwood Sands in 1992. Frank was baptized in 1932 at Grace Methodist Church, which was established by his grandfather, Frank C.L. Sands in 1909.

He is survived by his wife, Janet G. (Bowe) Sands, whom he married July 14, 1962 in St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Glassboro, NJ and by his two children, Brian Christopher Sands, wife Sherri of Germantown, TN; Valery Michele, wife of John McCausland of Morgantown, PA and his grandchildren: Christopher Patrick Sands, Charles Quinlan Sands, and Bennett Joseph Sands.

Mr. Sands was a member of Good Shepherd UCC where he served as Treasurer from 1998 to 2002. He was a graduate of Reading Business Institute and served in the US Naval Reserve from 1949 to 1961. He retired from Lucent Technologies in 1992 after 33 years.

he was an avid tennis player for 50 years, enjoyed reading and history and spent many hours researching family genealogy. Without fail, he would send cards to every family member on their birthdays and special occasions. In retirement, he enjoyed gardening, visiting Stone Harbor, NJ and St. Thomas, USVI. He was a lifelong sports fan.

Services will be held on Tuesday , February 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd UCC, 170 Tuckerton Road, Reading, PA 19605. Family and friends are invited to visit from 10 a.m. to 11a.m. . Burial will be private at the request of the family.
