Frances Parker Spangler Bisbing

Frances Parker Spangler Bisbing, 98, of Wyomissing, died March 23, 2008 in her apartment at The Highlands. She was the widow of Clair G. Spangler, M.D. and John H. Bisbing, M.D. She was the daughter of the late J. Heber and R. Elizabeth Clous Parker.

She is a graduate of Kent Place School and Wellesley College.

All of her life Frances was an active volunteer. She began her volunteer service in the Out Patient Department of Reading Hospital in 1931. She was a member of the Auxiliary Board of the Reading Hospital, serving as the Secretary for ten years and the Treasurer for two terms. When the Hospital Museum opened, she set up the volunteer guide program and organized the first lecture series for school children. She was a member of the Staff Physician Wives Auxiliary and the Wyomissing Auxiliary of the Reading Hospital and was on the Garden Party Committee for forty years.

During World War II she was Chairman of Orientation for the training of the Red Cross "Grey Ladies" at all three hospitals.

She was a Charter member of the Hospital Thrift Shop and Treasurer for three terms. She was a member, Treasurer, and President of the Auxiliary of the Berks County Medical Society, a member and served on the Board of the Auxiliary of the Pennsylvania Medical Society, and a member of the Auxiliary of the American Medical Association. For thirty years she was a member of the Board of Directors of the Berks County Visiting Nurses Home Health Agency and Chairman of volunteers. She was a Charter member and President of the Wellesley Club of Reading. Since 1931, she was a member of the Junior League of Reading, serving on various committees. She was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church where she was Program chairman for the "Circle" meetings. She was a member of the Huguenot Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Frances was predeceased by her brother, James H. Parker, Jr. She is survived by her three daughters, Ann E. (Spangler) Bartlett and her husband James P., Orleans, MA; Jane S. (Spangler) Green and her husband Willard P., Wallingford, PA, and Susan G. Spangler, Wyomissing. Four grandchildren; Virginia Vogt, Peter Vogt, Beth G. Lockfeld, and Andrew Green; seven great grandchildren, one nephew and two nieces and their families.

Private funeral services will be held at the Chapel of Charles Evans Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at the Highlands at a future date.
