Florence J. Swist

Florence J. Swist, 89, went to be with God on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2009. She passed away peacefully in her West Reading residence with her loving family by her bedside.

Florence, lovingly known as Grandmom by friends as well as family, was the wife of Carl J. Swist who passed in 1984.

Born May 18, 1920 in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Faustyn and Stella (Juzwicki) Szewczyk.

She was a long time member of Sacred Heart Parish, West Reading, since the 1940's. Florence actively took part in planning annual parish functions such as the card party, Polish night and parish picnics. She was also a member of the Sacred Heart Bowling League.

In the 60's she was employed by the Narrow Fabric Corp. where she worked third shift as a bobbin threader. In the early 70's she worked as a cook for the Immaculate Heart of Mary Sisters, stationed at Holy Name High School. She was a great Polish cook.

She is survived by her three daughters: Carol Swisher, West Reading; Cindy Diana, Robesonia and Alice, wife of Gerry Orlando, Wyomissing.

She will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren: Christina Talarico, Lori Eshelman, Gina McGuire, Joseph Swisher, Keith Talarico, Nicole Orlando and Matthew Orlando; as well as her great-grandchildren: Ryan, Connor, Anthony, Alex, Jaelyn and Katelyn.

Florence was predeceased by her son, Jerome C. "Jerry" Swist. She was also predeceased by her sisters: Mary Barth and Cecilia Terefenko.

She will be forever remembered for her spunky spirit, her strength in hard times, her sense of humor, her generosity and never ending love.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart R.C. Church, West Reading. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday 9 to 10 a.m. in the church. Contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Memorial Fund P.O. Box 6217, Wyomissing, PA 19610. Edward J.
