Florence S. Jagielski

Florence (Dombroski) Jagielski joined her dear husband Stanley in Heaven on March 31, 2010. She was born to Ella and Joseph Dombrowski on July 10, 1923. She grew up in the city of Reading where her parents owned a guesthouse and grocery. Florence considered herself lucky to be the first one in her family to graduate from high school. She was part of the Class of 1941 at St Peter's High School. Her first date with Stanley was while she was still in high school; they went to a movie then to St Lawrence for ice cream. After she graduated she had hoped to go to nursing school but felt obligated to get a job to help her family. She worked as a packer at Berkshire Knitting Mills.

She married Stanley in 1946 at Sacred Heart Church. She remained a devoted member of Sacred Heart. Florence was known for her cooking and baking. One of her greatest joys was cooking holiday meals for her family. Some of her specialties were pierogi's, galumpki's, potato filling and green Christmas tree cookies. She always made certain everyone had enough to eat. She also enjoyed crocheting and helping Stanley with crossword puzzles.

Her first grandchild tried to call her grandma but what came out instead was "Nummie". So for the rest of her life she was known happily as Nummie. She was certainly a one-of-a-kind, Nummie.

Her daughter-in-law Lorraine interviewed Florence for a college project. In it Florence said the nuns who taught her; in particular her eighth grade teacher had the most influence on her. She said her most significant challenge had been making ends meet financially during her early years of marriage, as well as balancing her job with family obligations. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren (and later great grandchildren). And her greatest satisfaction was knowing that her three children had grown up to be well adjusted, productive adults. Her words of wisdom were, "Follow your own intuitions, don't let outside influences persuade you to go against your own judgment".

For two years Florence resided at Berks Heim, and was loved by the staff there. Her family is grateful for the wonderful care they provided her.

She is missed by her daughter, Mary Ann Jagielski, her son Skip Jagielski and his wife, Lorraine, son John Jagielski and wife Arlene, grandchildren Lisa Jagielski, Andrea Levan and husband Chris, Nicholas Jagielski and Charlotte Jagielski. Her two great grandchildren, Hailey and Wyatt Levan also miss her. She will also be missed by her surviving brother Joe and his wife Peggy, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, in –laws and other extended family. We all miss her but are happy knowing she is at peace in Heaven with Stanley.
