Sister Florence Kruczek OSF

Sister Florence Kruczek, 95, of the Bernardine Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, died of natural causes on Monday afternoon, October 9, 2023, at St. Joseph Villa, Reading, PA, where she had resided since 2020.

Born in Lansford, PA, she was a daughter of the late Stanislaus and Mary (Gurka) Kruczek.

Sister Florence entered the Bernardine Sisters on August 11, 1946, and was in her 78th year of religious life. Sister earned three degrees, all in French: a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Mercy College, a Master of Arts from Assumption College, and a Doctor of Philosophy from The Pennsylvania State University. She served her ministry in Pennsylvania and Washington D.C. as an elementary, secondary, and college teacher, dean of students, language department chairperson, assistant to the VP of Mission and Ministry, in campus ministry, in mission effectiveness, as aspirants director, councilor and local minister.

Sister is survived by the members of her Bernardine Franciscan Congregation. There are no surviving immediate family members.

Viewing at St Joseph Villa, Reading, PA on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 2:00 pm. Mass on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Villa Chapel, Reading, PA. Burial will follow in the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters' Cemetery, Mount Alvernia, Reading, PA.
