Ferne A. Helbert

Ferne Alice (Christ) Helbert, 91, formerly of Muhlenberg Township, died June 15, 2012 in Berks Heim, Bern Township.

She was the wife of Irvin Franklin Helbert who died in 1990.

Born December 26, 1920 in West Leesport, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Helen (Reber) Christ.

Ferne was employed as a full fashion seamer with Rosedale Knitting Mill for a number of years.

Surviving are two children: Barry L. Helbert, partner of Elaine Crowell of Camden, DE and Sandra H. (Helbert), wife of Garry E. Street of Muhlenberg Township.

Other survivors include six grandchildren: Cheryl A. Helbert, Michelle K. Ludwig, Deanne F. Kalin, Lee Ann Helbert, Robert Street and Robyn Avilla; seven great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Also surviving is a brother, Paul, widower of Ruth Christ of Muhlenberg Township.

Ferne was predeceased by five brothers, Woodrow, William, Clarence, Norman and Howard.

The family of Ferne would like to thank the staff at Berks Heim for their loving care for Ferne while she was a resident there, especially unit A2.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Chapel at Laureldale Cemetery, 4631 Pottsville Pike, Muhlenberg Township. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
