Fern Esther (Boyer) Seyler was born Sept.10th, 1927 and passed away on Friday Sept.24th 2010 with her daughters and family by her side. Fern had been a resident in the Breidegam Center and the skilled nursing center at The Lutheran Home in Topton for the past several years, and prior to that lived, in the independent apartments on the campus since 2001. Although she lived and dealt with Alzheimer's disease, she continued to be a smiling, sociable, friend to many other residents and was pleasantly recognized and remembered by staff.
Fern was born and raised in Oley, PA and loved living and later visiting there. She graduated from Oley High School and went on to graduate from Bryland Beauty School, where she met her life long friend Betty Fritz, wife of the late Curtis Fritz, Birdsboro.
Fern had her own salon in Oley, where she met, and later married, Lester T. Seyler, who passed away in February 2002. They were married for fifty three years.
Fern and Lester, built their first house in Exeter Township, where Fern also had a beauty salon which allowed her to be able to work at home and still care for her two daughters, RoseAnn Seyler Sinkosky, wife of Anthony J. Sinkosky, of Manheim, PA, and Melinda L. Seyler, of Sinking Spring, PA. Fern also has three grandchildren, Julie Sinkosky, fiance of Ryan Brown, of Philadelphia, Elliot Sinkosky of Manheim and Madalyn Feinauer of Sinking Spring. Fern also was predeceased by her only sibling, Myrtle (Boyer) Reitnouer, wife of Kenneth George Reitnouer of Temple, PA.
Fern was a very loving and doting mother and grandmother, who always put her children and grandchildren before anything and anyone else. They were her pride and joy. She was usually found in the kitchen cooking at family gatherings and made the best potato filling, pineapple upside down cake, and fastnachts, just to name a few.
In addition to Fern being a hair stylist, she worked at the Berks, (Oley) Vo-Tech for many years in the kitchen, where she had close friends and enjoyed being with the students and instructors. Fern and Lester also had a produce stand in Five Points where they sold their home grown fruits, sweet corn and apple cider. Fern made many friends through that business over the years and folks often referred to her as "the apple and corn lady".
Fern always looked forward to regularly playing cards with her best friends in Exeter. They were loving, thoughtful, friends and continued playing for over thirty years. Fern will be sadly missed by many people, especially her daughters, but we are thinking she is now at peace. Family and friends are invited to call at the Blankenbiller Funeral Home in Oley on Wed.evening September 29th, between 5:30 to 7, with a memorial service at 7. Burial services will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association or Diakon Hospice Saint John.
