Felicitas Kindig

Felicitas "Flitzi" Kindig, 93, passed away on Monday, December 11th. Born on October 28th, 1930 in Oestkirschen, Rhineland Germany, she was the daughter of the late Marga (Gertig) Stolle and Franz Stolle. She graduated from Kunstschule Wiesbaden in 1954 where she studied fashion design.

She met her husband, Stephen Kindig, during his service in the U.S. army stationed in West Germany. They married in 1958 and she left her family in Germany to move to the United States. Originally living in Chicago where their only daughter, Stephanie, was born in 1959, they moved to Oley, Pennsylvania in 1968 where she lived the majority of her life until moving to the Highlands At Wyomissing. She was deeply attached to her home at the historic Lobachsville gristmill where, in addition to raising her daughter, she pursued her interests in gardening, painting, housekeeping and entertaining her many friends and neighbors. She was active in altruistic pursuits and organizations focusing on art education for children, environmental issues and local historic preservation. She loved all animals, especially songbirds and her pet dogs and cats.

In her later years, her two grandsons were her pride and joy. She provided a loving childhood for her grandsons and their friends at her home. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Stephen, her daughter, Stephanie Kindig, and her grandson Tom Stokes. She was predeceased by her beloved grandson Oliver Kindig-Stokes and her dear younger brother Ingo. Though suffering from dementia in her later years, she never forgot her husband, daughter and grandson or the memories of her deceased loved ones. Her family is grateful for the care Flitzi received from the Highlands At Wyomissing. Services will be private.

Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc, West Reading is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
