Fay L. Birmingham

Fay L. Birmingham, 85, of Shoemakersville, passed away on April 20, 2024, at Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center.

Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Lee and Elizabeth (Steffanic) Schwoyer.

She was a graduate of Perry High School in 1957.

Fay worked for AT&T for over 30 years until her retirement.

She enjoyed sports, especially Penn St. football. Fay had her own ceramics store for many years on Main Street in Shoemakersville. She enjoyed trips to the casino, artificial floral arrangements, playing poker, listening to music, and cooking. Fay was a member of St. Mary's RCC, Hamburg, where she helped in the kitchen for a number of years. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Most importantly, she loved her family, cherishing her time with them including her grandchildren's soccer games.

Fay is survived by her son, Gary L. (Zena B.) Burkert, Reading; two grandchildren, Elle J. (Ben) Wyland, Easley, SC and Evan R. Burkert, Bellefonte, PA; and one sister, Sheryl (Randy) Miller, Hamburg. One expectant great-grandson is due in three weeks.

Fay was predeceased by one daughter, Beth Ann Birmingham.

A viewing will be held Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Friday April 26, 2024, from 9 to 10 a.m. with a prayer service to begin at 10 a.m. at Kuhn Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Hamburg.
