Evelyn Virginia Weiss Tropp

Evelyn Virginia (Leid) Weiss Tropp, 89, of Ruscombmanor Township, died March 15, 2014 in The Lutheran Home at Topton.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Herbert S. Weiss, and her second husband, Rev. Lawrence R. Tropp.

Born December 11, 1924 in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Arthur J. and Edith M. (Krick) Leid.

Evelyn was a graduate of Mohnton High School and the Reading Business School. She was a bookkeeper, last working at National Bank of Boyertown in 1979.

She was a very active member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Oley, where she sang in the choir. She also served as treasurer of Friedens as well as Epiphany Lutheran Church in Temple, PA. Relocations took her to several Lutheran churches, where she always sang in the choir. She also sang with the Muhlenberg Community Chorus.

Evelyn enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and watching the Lawrence Welk Show. She liked butterflies, ham and string beans, cats, and getting her hair done.

A very generous woman, family was most important to her. She and Herb planned and saved for many family vacations when their children were young, the most notable being a trip to Florida, leaving in a snow storm for the long drive while following a snow plow. It was an adventure that she loved.

Surviving are her four children: Susan E., wife of John Huhn of Ruscombmanor Township; Rev. Marjorie E. Weiss, wife of David Derr of Wellington, FL; Stephen D., husband of Donna Weiss of Oley, and Timothy R. Weiss of Weehawken, NJ.

Also surviving are her six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Evelyn was predeceased by her sister Miriam (Leid) Mohn, and brother, Donald Leid.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Friedens Lutheran Church, 1076 Memorial Highway, Oley. A viewing will be held from 9:30-11:00 a.m. in the church. Burial will be at Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
