Evelyn M. Mengel

Evelyn M. (Stauffer) Mengel, 85, formerly of 205 Kent Way, West Reading and Phoebe Berks Village, died January 13th at 11:45 pm in Phoebe Berks Health Care, Wernersville, where she had been since August 17, 2004.

She was the widow of W. Lewis Mengel, Sr., who died August 7, 2002.

Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Robert G. and Edith M. (Phillips) Stauffer.

She was a 1936 graduate of Reading High School.

Mengel worked with her husband for 15 years as a secretary at W. Mengel Co., West Reading, before retiring in 1973.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Reading.

Mengel was a 20 year volunteer at Red Cross, Berks County Chapter.

She is survived by a step-daughter, Suzanne G. Mengel of Reading and a step-son, William L. Mengel of Reading.

Services will be Thursday at 11:00 am in the Phoebe Berks Chapel, Wernersville. Visitation will be Thursday 10:00 am until time of service. Burial will be private in Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township. Contributions may be made to Phoebe Berks Village, 1 Reading Drive, Wernersville, Pa 19560. Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale, is in charge of arrangements.
