Evelyn May "Ev" Hanley, 79, of West Lawn, passed away June 2, 2016, in Reading Hospital after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
She was the loving wife of Daniel W. Hanley Jr., whom she married June 17 and celebrated over 55 years of happy and glorious wedded bliss.
Born in Lebanon, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Violet (Kohr) Krammes.
Ev was a 1954 graduate of Lebanon High School and a 1958 graduate of Lebanon Valley College, where she received a B.S. in Elementary Education and Music.
She was a teacher for Spring Ridge Elementary, where she was also a Reading Specialist for their Soar to Success program. Previously she was a Supervisor Principal for Liberty Christian Academy and Supervisor for Victory Christian Academy. Ev was also a teacher for Jasksonwald, Brecknock, Lorriane and Governor Mifflin elementary schools. She began her teaching career at Cornwall Elementary School, Lebanon.
Ev was member of Loving Arms Cancer Support Group. She also was a church organist and pianist for Spring Valley Church of God, Reading, and Missionary Church, Shillington for many years. Ev enjoyed gardening, family gatherings, reading, and was especially proud of her cooking and baking.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her husband Dan considered Ev "the best wife in the world" and "His Princess". To her family she was adored and admired. Ev was a woman of great faith, always smiling and putting others first.
In addition to her husband, Ev is survived by her three children, Lisa D., wife of Barry L. Eshelman, Spring Township; Daniel W. III, husband of Stacey L. Hanley, Spring Township; and Deanna D., wife of Robert J. Koch Jr., Lancaster County. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Karen L. Eshelman, Susan E. Eshelman, Joshua A. Koch, Abigail R. Hanley, and Daniel W. Hanley IV; a great-grandson, Daniel M. Pronsky Jr.; brother, Kenneth D., husband of Mary Ann Krammes, Lebanon; sister-in-law, Linda, wife of Charles Filman and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Hanley Family would like to thank the Reading Hospital staff and nurses for their support during her time of illness and a special honor to Dr. Eric Rupard, Alicin Roop and the entire Hematology and Oncology Department.
Services will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. in GT Church,1110 Snyder Rd., West Lawn, PA 19609 with burial to follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park. A viewing will be held from Wednesday from 10 to 11:30 in the church.
