Evangeline Mcgowan

Evangeline McGowan, 93, formerly of Exeter Twp., passed away on February 16, 2024, in her Spring Twp. residence.

Her husband, Robert H. McGowan, passed away on January 19, 1999. They were married on November 29, 1953.

Born in Reading she was a daughter of the late Anastasios and Helen (Chincha) Katzos.

She was employed by Berkshire Knitting Mills; she stopped working to raise her children. She returned to the workforce for Boscov's Department Store at their East location for over 40 years, retiring in 2020.

Evangeline was a lifelong member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Reading. She was very active in her church; was a proud member of St. Xenia Philoptochos Society, and a dedicated volunteer for their annual church bazaar.

She was completely devoted to her family. Evangeline is survived by her children, Elaine M. (Kim) Shunk, West Lawn and David R. (Sherry) McGowan, Leesport; five grandchildren: Maria K. (Cory) Kriebel, Kristen M. Sterner, Bryant W. Shunk, Benjamin D. (Keri) McGowan, and Evangelia J. (Ramin) Movahed; and six great-grandchildren: Nikolaos, Eleni, Xristos, Elliana, Bryson, and Ariana.

Evangeline was predeceased by two siblings and their spouses, Ignatius and Estelle Kageos and Despina and Samuel Nigrelli.

A viewing will be held Friday, February 23, 2024, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. with services to begin at 11 a.m. at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 1001 East Wyomissing Blvd., Reading, PA 19611. Burial will follow at Mohnsville Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Sts.
