Eugene (Gene) Wisniewski, 95, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2022 at his residence.
Born September 5, 1926 in Reading, PA, Gene was the son of the late Stella (Skibinski) and Stefan Wisniewski. He was the husband of Elaine M. (Gentile) Wisniewski whom he married on October 9, 1971, until her passing on August 12, 2011.
He is survived by his children, daughters: Kim Leavitt, Greensboro, NC; Karen Kay Wisniewski-Hall, wife of Robert Hall, US State Department, Bangkok, Thailand; Deborah Hoffman, wife of Edward Hoffman, Ruskin, FL; sons: the late Richard Scheibner and wife, Jessica Scheibner, Reading, PA; James Scheibner and wife, Eileen Reading, PA. Gene is also survived by ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his sister, Anne Wenrich, and brother, Stanley Wisniewski.
Gene attended Reading Public Schools until entering the US Naval Air Corp in 1943. He served during WWII in the Asiatic-Pacific theater. Gene was a graduate of Santa Maria Union High School, Santa Maria, California (1943), Muhlenberg College (1950), and Temple University Law School (1953). Gene was admitted to the Berks County Bar in December 1953 and served as President of the Berks County Bar Association from 1976 to 1977. Gene also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Reading School Board from 1967 until 1973, President of the Flying Dutchman Ski Club, Executive Director of the Reading Redevelopment Authority, member of the Board of Directors of the Reading Police Pension Fund and Solicitor to the Reading Policemen's Association.
He was a lifetime member of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in Reading, PA, until its closing, and then of Scared Heart Roman Catholic Church in West Reading.
In July 1982, Gene was appointed to serve as a U.S. Administrative Law Judge and served as a Regional Chief Administrative Law Judge Philadelphia Region, consisting of Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland West Virginia, Virginia, and Washington D.C. from August 1984 until August 1996 when he was assigned to the Reading, PA office as an Administrative Law Judge with the Social Security Administration; Office of Hearings and Appeals. Gene served as a Senior Administrative Law Judge in various capacities with various U.S. government agencies until December 2007. Gene became legislative aide to Representative Thomas Caltagirone in September 2008.
Gene loved his wife and family, traveling, skiing, fishing, and, most of all, working in the Jubilee Forum.
Gene will miss all of you. He requests that he be remembered as having lived and having loved life to its fullest.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on February 2, 2022 at 10:00 am and will be private for the family. Interment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may access the mass virtually via web stream. A memorial celebration of life is planned for September. Condolences may be expressed and the webcast accessed at kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at stjude.org/givehope.
