Eugene V. Kern

Eugene V. Kern, 85, of Spring Township, passed away April 7, 2013 in ManorCare Sinking Spring.

He was the husband of Jacqueline F. (Miller) Kern.

Born in Shillington, he was a son of the late Stephen and Catherine (Boyd) Kern.

Eugene was a 1945 graduate of Shillington High School and attended Temple University.

He worked as a services manager, first at RCA for over 20 years and then for Boscov's until his retirement in 1992.

Eugene was a member of Advent Lutheran Church, West Lawn.

He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his three children: Michael S., husband of Lynnbeth Kern, Spring Township; G. Scott, husband of Debra Kern, Denver and Laurie K., wife of Jeffrey Gum, Bath. Also surviving is his sisters, Betty, wife of Donald Seltzer, Mohnton. Seven grandchildren: Megan, Kelly, Michael, Jr., Jeffrey, Jr., Justin, Derek and Christopher also survive him.

Eugene was predeceased by four siblings: Ruth Oulds, Robert Kern, Joyce Wagner and Geraldine Hoyer.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Rev. William B. Fyer will officiate. Viewings will be Thursday 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Friday 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.
