Eugene H."Poppy" Borkey

Eugene H. "Poppy" Borkey, 89, of Heritage of Green Hills, passed away April 17, 2018 in the Reading Hospital.

He was the beloved husband for 65 years of Bette J. Borkey, who died December 8, 2017.

Born in Auburn,PA, he was the son of the late Edwin C. and Kathryn E. (Henne) Borkey.

Eugene was a 1946 graduate of Auburn High School and also attended Albright College.

He was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War in the 5th Infantry Division and also played in the army band.

Eugene was an active member of Grace Lutheran Evangelical Church and served on the Church Council.

Eugene was an avid golfer and member of the Heidelberg Country Club for over 30 years. He also played baseball for Philadelphia Farm Club Athletics and signed to a two year contract by Connie Mack. He also enjoyed going to the beach in Avalon and most importantly he loved spending time with his family especially his grandson.

He was employed by Tom Masano Group as the office manager and controller for many years. During his retirement, he worked for MEBC as a bookkeeper for ten years and in his early years he worked for Barmac Shoe Factory and Eastman Dillon Securities, NY then transferred to the Berks division.

He is survived by his very dear Kathy, wife of Mark Brown, Exeter Township; niece, Rochelle, wife of Joseph Evanousky; four nephews, Edwin Borkey, James Borkey, Thomas Borkey and Neal Borkey Jr; sister-in-law, Lucy Borkey; and grandson, Austin E. Brown.

Eugene was predeceased by his brother, Neal Borkey Sr..

A viewing will be held Friday, April 27, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 30 Liberty St, Shillington, PA 19607. Funeral Service will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the church with burial to follow at Pleasant View Cemetery.
