Ethel M. Shaner

Ethel M. Shaner, 96, passed away on Saturday, October 22nd, 2022 in her Wernersville residence. She was the loving wife of the late Stuart S. "Pat" Shaner, who passed in 2005.

Born in West Lawn, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Elsie (Shirk) Bright. After graduating from Reading High School in 1944, Ethel embarked on a long career with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Philadelphia. After 44 years, she retired from a position as a branch administrator in 1986.

Ethel was a long time member of St. John's Reformed Church, served for fifty years as an Eastern Star, and volunteered with hospice patients through Berks VNA.

Left to cherish her memory are nieces, Judy Bahney and Enid Rosenwasser; nephews, Lee Bright and John Bright; and a beloved family friend, Barbara DeBeck. Ethel was predeceased by her siblings: June, Sarah, Miriam, John and Edward.

A prayer service will be held on Thursday, October 27th, 2022 at 11:00 am at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc. 739 Penn Avenue West Reading, PA 19611. Friends and family are invited to gather from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Laureldale Cemetery, 4631 Pottsville Pike, Reading, PA 19605.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Reformed Church, 4001 W Penn Ave, Reading, PA 19608.
